No matter where I am, my eyes constantly scan the surroundings for something interesting, something unusual. As a professor of theatre design, I encouraged my students to practice “seeing,” to become aware of their environment—to see what’s around them, to observe how they “fit” into a specific space, to understand how they feel about their relationship with that locale. Landscape/nature photography requires this same type of “seeing.” What captured my attention in this scene? What led me to stop, look, and listen at this specific place and how do I capture those sensations in an image that fosters your “seeing”?
